5 Celebrities with Bipolar/personality Disorder

Bipolar and personality disorder affects 6.8% Australians aged between 16 – 24 year olds with 50% of the cases of bipolar diagnosis being at the age of 20.

Here are some celebrities that have had or have bipolar or personality disorders.

1. Demi Lovato

Demi Lovato suffers from bipolar disorder but since completing treatment says “I feel like I am in control now.”

Demi told People magazine that “there was times when I was so manic, I was writing seven songs in one night and I’d be up until 5:30 in the morning.”

2. Kurt Cobain

Kurt Cobain was named in Time magazines “manic geniuses” who made great contributions to music, art and literature.

“As music is a language communicating moods, the emotional intensity of bipolar disorder apparently can add depth to musical expression.”

3. Marilyn Monroe

Marilyn Monroe’s mental health was revealed in the documentary, Marilyn Monroe: The Final Days.

Monroe’s physician, Hymen Engelberg says “we knew that she was manic depressive… there were emotional problems and that she could have big swings in her moods.”

4. Amy Winehouse

Amy Winehouse suffered from bipolar disorder and manic depression.

As a teenager Amy showed obvious signs of bipolar’s mania through her clear obsession and interests of only music and performing.

5. Catherine Zeta-Jones

Catherine Zeta-Jones suffers from bipolar II disorder which has longer periods of depression and shorter as well as milder manic episodes.

Catherine told People magazine that she decided to go public because it might help other to step forward and get treatment.

“There is no need to suffer silently and there is no shame in seeking help.”
